Cirencester College Building with Nature
A s Building with Nature (BWN) assessor for Cirencester College, Elizabeth of Wild Service reviewed and advised on the ecological enhancement plans and enabled the College to achieve The Design Award from BWN. The College devised a Green Campus Strategy in order to create a multi-functional green infrastructure network by promoting biodiversity through establishing, improving, and sustaining habitats and wildlife corridors, thereby bringing nature into the ‘heart’ of the built environment through building design, planting schemes and landscaping. The green infrastructure works at Cirencester college form part of a larger ESIF project ‘Wild Campus Cirencester’ (which Wild Service has also advised on) that will take place in the 60 hectare ‘education quarter’ on the west side of Cirencester in Gloucestershire, comprising the Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester College, and Cirencester Deer Park School. Habitat improvements are spread across the combined campuses, with the aim of maximising ecological connectivity and providing the greatest benefit to bats, birds, insects, and other wildlife, thereby enhancing the green infrastructure in the area for both wildlife and people.
