Commons Connections, South Gloucestershire – PEAs, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Assessment, GIS Phase 1 Habitat Mapping and Enhancement Plans
W ild service was commissioned by South Gloucestershire Council to undertake Phase 1 habitat surveys on 88 sites covering 375 hectares of land in South Gloucestershire. Of these sites, 67 (300 hectares) were subject to habitat change measures and Wild Service provided recommendations to inform ecological enhancement plans and biodiversity net gain assessments of the client’s green infrastructure plan for the County. Existing habitats were recorded and mapped, and potential for protected species was noted. Recommendations were made for each site for appropriate ecological enhancements such as meadow improvement, wildflower seeding, bulb and plug planting, tree planting, pond remediation, pond creation and the installation of nesting boxes. Biodiversity Net Gain Assessment was undertaken using the DEFRA Metric 3.1. Wild Service worked closely along side South Gloucestershire Council to identify realistic opportunities for enhancements.
